This year the Workhouse Festival will run on 100% renewable energy. We have been able to source our mains electricity from Ecotricity and we are paying for a special tariff that guarantees that all the electricity will be sourced from the wind and sun. We also have several stages and venues on site providing their own electricity with solar panels and wind generators.
We feel that this is the best way for everyone to learn about renewable energy. Any vehicles moving on site during the festival weekend will be running on bio-diesel and we will have a horse and cart on site to collect recycling and refuse.
This year we are creating a new area for green and environmental innovations. If you have an eco invention, product or idea that you would like to bring to Workhouse 09 we would love to hear from you. Please email here.
We have a dedicated recycling team in place who are enthusiastic and dedicated to the cause. We are asking all festival goers to help them out by making sure that the correct recycling bins are used throughout the weekend as having to separate everyone’s rubbish and recycling is a time-consuming and messy job!
At Workhouse 2008 we made a huge effort to recycle more waste. Thank you to everyone who helped out and used the recycling points responsibly. This year we aim to do even better with more recycling points throughout the site – please use them and please be conscious of your waste and surplus-to-requirements material. Remember we have a no glass policy and please put cigarette butts in ashtrays, after all, they are toxic to livestock.
Workhouse Festival is committed to working towards becoming carbon neutral. We are currently looking into tree planting intiatives to reduce our impact on the planet.
As the Workhouse Festival team is totally committed to the environment we have written a policy all about it. Please email here to request a copy. We have also created a list of useful tips below to enable everyone at the festival help care for the environment:
There will be plenty of recycling points throughout the site – so essentially there will really be no excuse but to recycle.
All waste food can be placed in the compost bins provided. All disposable cups, plates and cutlery on site will be compostable so you can put these in as well.
Please pick up litter and don’t leave it behind. There will be plenty of litter bins all over the site for you to use and you will also be provided with black plastic bags on your arrival.
Please do not leave taps running. If you see any leaking taps please tell one of our stewards or report it at the site office.
It really does make a difference! We are registered with Freewheelers so if you can provide a lift to the festival or require a lift please click here.
